In a quiet backwater between Dorchester and Sherborne is Ryewater Nursery, covering around 40 hectares of lowland Dorset countryside. Formerly a nursery surrounded by cattle pasture, Ryewater is now a spectacular example of how land can be managed to enhance local biodiversity. It is the result of the far-sighted ideas of Clive Farrell, who over the last twenty years, has transformed the landscape into a magnificent micro-wilderness of wildflower meadows and managed woodland.

The gardens include the spectacular “prison” and “spiral” gardens as well as what is reputed to be the world’s largest “R” – hedges laid out in the shape of an R as a tribute to Clive’s wife.
